Dan Larimer is a software developer and entrepreneur who is best known for his contributions to the blockchain industry. He is the founder of several blockchain projects, including EOSIO, BitShares, and Steem.

Larimer was born in Colorado in 1983 and grew up in Florida. He began his career in the tech industry in the late 1990s, working on projects related to virtual reality and 3D modeling. In the early 2000s, he shifted his focus to developing online communities and building peer-to-peer software.

In 2013, Larimer founded BitShares, a decentralized exchange and financial platform that uses blockchain technology. The platform was designed to allow users to trade digital assets and cryptocurrencies without the need for a centralized intermediary. BitShares was one of the first blockchain projects to use the Delegated Proof of Stake (DPoS) consensus algorithm.

In 2016, Larimer founded Steemit, a blockchain-based social media platform that allows users to create and share content while earning cryptocurrency rewards. The platform uses a variation of DPoS, called "witness consensus," to ensure that the network remains secure and decentralized.

Larimer's most recent project is EOSIO, a blockchain platform designed for decentralized applications (dApps) and smart contracts. EOSIO uses DPoS as its consensus algorithm and is known for its high transaction throughput and low latency.

Larimer has been a controversial figure in the blockchain industry, with some praising his contributions to the space while others criticize his tendency to move on from projects quickly. Despite this, his work has had a significant impact on the development of blockchain technology and the cryptocurrency ecosystem.
